UDMD Toronto - April 19, 2012

On April 19, 2012, TD Asset Management turned heads in the financial world by out duelling 34 competitors for the coveted Up the Down Market Dinner trophy.

The triumphant team overcame a formidable challenge from industry rivals, most notably TD Securities, whose second place finish established TD as a true UDMD powerhouse. AllianceBernstein, Connor, Clark & Lunn and State Street Global Advisors rounded out the top five.

Up the Down Market, held at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto, was more than just an opportunity for finance heavyweights to flex their muscles. The real story of the evening was the financial community coming together in support of individuals with Down syndrome - and in this, everyone was a winner.

The net proceeds of the event came in just a shade under $65,000 - money that will no doubt be a boon to the Down Syndrome Research Foundation in their mission to empower individuals with Down syndrome to reach their full potential throughout life by pioneering and providing educational programs and services, grounded in foundational research. Working with researchers, professionals and families, DSRF is a bridge between research and practice.

The undeniable highlight of the night came when Kenny Freeman and Nicole Flynn told their stories and proved beyond doubt that, with the right support, individuals with Down syndrome can thrive in work and in life.

A spokesperson for DSRF stressed their appreciation of the generous UDMD sponsors, including Air Canada, Royal York Hotel, BNN, Dynamic Funds and Raymond James. Local partners Circle 21, MC’s Kevin Martino and Peter Muldowney, Game Organizers Burton Lee and Kevin Pickell, the UDMD organizing committee, student volunteers from the Rotman School of Management, Circle 21’s volunteer team and all table sponsors and guests were also singled out for special thanks. All involved have made a tremendous difference in the Down syndrome community.
