Pastor Starts Hockey Team for Special-Needs Kids

OTTAWA - For much of his young life, Ottawa's Adam O'Connor has taken part in organized basketball, floor hockey and swimming - sports geared to those, like him, with special needs.

But the 16-year-old with Down syndrome longed to play ice hockey.

A devoted fan of the Ottawa Senators and Ottawa 67's, Adam learned to skate as a boy, but had difficulty fitting into a conventional hockey league.

"He could enjoy skating and would skate on the canal, but he's never been able to play regular hockey," says his mother, Lisa.
