Woman with Down Syndrome Didn't Let Preconceptions Stop Her From Applying for a Promotion

Linda Stevanus sat nervously in the booth of a Waterloo coffee shop, anxiously waiting for her daughter to finish a job interview. Natalie Stevanus had applied -- against her mother's wishes -- to become a manager at the Williams Coffee Pub on Northfield Drive.

It wasn't that Linda didn't want her daughter to work. She just didn't want her to get her hopes up, then fail. Natalie, 25, has Down syndrome. Until a few years ago, her mother wasn't sure if anyone would give her daughter a chance.
