About program:
The Next Chapter Book Club (NCBC) is a program that originated out of The Ohio State University Nisonger Center, a research and training center on developmental disabilities. The program was founded in 2002 and has grown from two groups in Columbus, Ohio, to over 70 groups throughout the U.S. The Down Syndrome Research Foundation (DSRF) is proud to be presenting the NCBC program to British Columbia, Canada.

Small groups of people with intellectual disabilities meet with two volunteers in a local bookstore or coffee shop to read books, talk about books and make friends in a community setting. They read adapted classics like Little Women and Treasure Island and current works such as Harry Potter. Anyone can join, no matter their reading level. Groups can include both readers and nonreaders. Two trained volunteers facilitate each group. Volunteers include students, parents, professionals, retirees, and people with disabilities.

Cost: Free of charge

To join existing book clubs, or to start your own Next Chapter Book Club please contact Joy Hayden, or call 604 444 3773.
