It was a cold and soaking wet day at Swangard Stadium on Sunday, but that wasn’t enough to dampen the spirits of those who gathered to celebrate and support their loved ones with Down syndrome. Umbrellas were plentiful, but many runners and walkers crossed the finish line looking like they had gone for a swim – a true testament to their commitment to the cause.

Nearly 800 runners representing 61 teams participated in Run Up for Down Syndrome 2024. Factoring in donations that we anticipate receiving shortly, we expect total funds raised to exceed $240,000. Over 1,460 supporters have contributed to this incredible achievement.

Along with the runners, the success of the event is due in large part to our generous event sponsors, including presenting sponsor Upper Canada Forest Products, LiUNA Western Canada, The Answer Company, CTV, Save On Foods, the BC Maritime Employers Association, Mott Electric, Beedie, the Burnaby Firefighters, Starbucks, KPMG, the Vancouver Canadians, and the City of Burnaby.

Special thanks to our incredible volunteer team who braved the weather to ensure an enjoyable event for all. Big thanks as well to musician Mike Dunbar, who kept our toes tapping throughout the morning. And as always, Run Up for Down Syndrome was kept on track by emcee John Crosby, who was ably assisted on stage by DSRF Ambassador Chris Sayer.

The Run Up website is still open and accepting donations. We would be grateful for any late donations to nudge us up to our $250,000 fundraising goal!
